Moulton to build fire station on armory site

MOULTON — The city will build a new fire station on the site of the old National Guard Armory on Court Street.

Mayor Ray Alexander asked the Moulton City Council on Monday for permission for the armory building to be demolished.

A new fire station is needed because of mold problems at the old fire station located downtown. Currently, firemen have to sleep and do paperwork in a mobile building parked behind the fire station.

The town will use a $350,000 grant and a $2 million bond issue to pay for the project.
