FLORENCE — The Shoals chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness is holding a free six-week course for parents and other caregivers of children and adolescents with mental illness.
The sessions begin Feb. 25.
Classes will meet on Monday nights through April 1, from 6:30-9 p.m., at the NAMI Shoals office at 749 Thompson Street, Suite A, in Florence.
Class segments include the trauma of mental illness for the child and family; the biology of mental illness; the latest research on the medical aspects of the illness and advances in treatment; an overview of treatment options; the impact of a child’s mental illness on the rest of the family; and an overview of systems involved in caring for children and teens.
