TUSCUMBIA — Northwest-Shoals Community College will not renew its lease with the Alabama Music Hall of Fame and is postponing the proposed purchase of the venue’s property.
The college’s lease with the hall of fame expired today, college President Humphrey Lee said.
“The new Alabama Community College System chancellor, Mark Heinrich, would like us to evaluate the purchase of the property before we continue further into the process,” Lee said in a prepared statement. “ After speaking with Dr. Heinrich, he and I are in agreement and want to make sure we are diligent with this decision concerning the college and community by examining every aspect of this acquisition.”
The college began leasing the hall of fame building in June as a way of helping the facility remain open during the peak tourist season.
Northwest-Shoals has offered to purchase the hall of fame building and the surrounding 40 acres along U.S. 72 for $1.1 million, which would be paid in three installments.
Lee said there are issues with the title of the property that must be resolved before the purchase discussions can continue.
