Shoals area city, county and state offices will be closed Monday and Tuesday in observance of Christmas. Federal offices will be closed on Christmas Day.

The holiday will also cause some changes to Shoals garbage collection schedules.

In Florence, Russellville, Colbert, Franklin and Lauderdale counties, garbage routes will run one day later than usual beginning Tuesday. For example, Tuesday’s routes will run on Wednesday, Wednesday’s on Thursday, and so on.

In Muscle Shoals, Monday and Tuesday’s garbage pickups will be Wednesday; Wednesday pickup will run on Thursday, and Thursday’s route will run on Friday.

Trailers will be available at the Kmart parking lot, at Webster and Highland Park elementary schools and behind Southgate Mall for residents to deposit paper and cardboard products. Residents are urged not to dispose of household garbage in the trailers.

All commercial garbage pickups will be on Friday and there will be no brush pickup this week.

Sheffield’s Tuesday route will run on Wednesday and Wednesday’s route will run on Thursday.

Landfills in Colbert, Franklin and Lauderdale counties will be closed Christmas Day.

Shoals residents are being urged to place their garbage containers at the street no later than 7 a.m. on their scheduled pick-up day.

Colbert County customers should get their carts out by 6 a.m.
