Three players reached double figures in scoring as host Mars Hill held off Florence 60-55. Harrison Chastain scored 17 points as Class 3A’s seventh-ranked Panthers improved to 15-3 on the season.
After taking an early 23-17 lead, Mars Hill led 33-29 at the Half. The Falcons made their move in the third period, opening the half on a 10-2 run to grab a brief 39-35 lead.
The Panthers, however, recovered by finishing the quarter on an 11-3 run of its own and held the lead throughout the fourth quarter.
Thomas Swinea and Landon Willis added 13 points each for Mars Hill. Florence’s Chauncey Watkins led all scorers with 21 points. Darius Smith added 11 points for the Falcons.
n Wilson 73, Lauderdale County 63: After grabbing a big lead, Wilson held off a late Lauderdale County charge for a 73-63 road win. The Warriors took a 39-25 lead at the break and kept the lead in double figures most of the second half.
A brief spurt got the Tigers within four early in the fourth quarter before Wilson closed the game with a 23-21 advantage in the period to secure the win.
Austin Oakley led the Warriors with 17 points. Kenneth Henry also reached double digits for Wilson with 12 points on the night.
Lauderdale County was led by Drew Newton’s game-high 22 points. Nathaniel McCafferty added 19 points while Austin Christopher tossed in 12 points for the Tigers.
n James Clemens 41, Muscle Shoals 40: James Clemens hit a three-pointer with 1.5 seconds remaining to claim a one-point victory at Muscle Shoals. Josh Mitchell recorded the winning shot to finish with a game-high 17 points for the Jets.
The game-winning shot came moments after the Blake Goodwin’s basket to put the Trojans ahead with 18 seconds to play.
Goodwin finished with 13 points to lead Muscle Shoals.
n Central 36, Lexington 26: Central was able to rely on its defense to pick up a Class 2A, Area 15 victory over Lexington. The Wildcats held the Golden Bears to only three points in the first half in a 36-26 win.
After managing just a point in the first quarter, Lexington scored its only basket of the half early in the second quarter. Central, meanwhile, built a 14-3 lead at the half and never looked back. Freshman Cameron Brown led the Wildcats with 11 points.
Jake Rogers’ nine points led Lexington on the night.
n Deshler 68, R.A. Hubbard 60 (OT): Chandler Brown and Thomas Gamble combined for 42 points as Deshler handed R.A. Hubbard its first loss of the season with a 68-60 road win. Brown had 22 points while Gamble scored eight in overtime to finish with 20 points for the Tigers.
After a 16-14 Deshler advantage in the fourth quarter tied the score at56-56 to end regulation, the Tigers (8-7) used a 12-4 spurt in the extra period to pull away.
R.A. Hubbard (6-1) was led by Deontae Carter, who had 15 points, 10 rebounds and eight blocked shots. Austin Beasley added 12 points and 10 rebounds for the Chiefs.
n Rogers 41, Ardmore 39: Brady Murks hit a baseline jumper with 30 seconds remaining to give Rogers the lead, and the Pirates held on for a 41-39 victory over Ardmore.
Ardmore had three more possessions to try and win the game, but turned the ball on the first two and then missed a desperation heave at the buzzer after Caleb Morrow split a pair of free throws with 4 seconds left.
Morrow led Rogers (9-4) with 13 points while Murks scored 12. Miles Noblitt led Ardmore with 14 points.
Girls
n R.A. Hubbard 61, Deshler 55: Alex Gholston scored 21 points and pulled down 16 rebounds to lead R.A. Hubbard to a 61-55 home win over Deshler. After entering the fourth quarter trailing 47-40, the Chiefs
used a 21-8 run down the stretch to get the victory.
Deshler, who was led by Lauren Cantrell’s game-high 26 points, took a 32-27 lead at the half before outscoring the home team 15-13 in the third quarter.
Alexandria Mason added a pair of three-point baskets and finished with 14 points for R.A. Hubbard, who improves to 6-2 on the season.
n Lexington 47, Central 42: Lexington’s Savannah Stults and Haven Albright combined for 40 points in a 47-42 area win over Central. The Class 2A second-ranked Golden Bears led 25-20 at the half and 36-28 heading into the fourth quarter before a Central rally fell short.
With the win, Lexington improves to 17-4 overall and 3-0 in Class 2A, Area 15 action. Stults finished with 22 points while Albright tossed in 18 points for Lexington. Abby Keener led Central with 13 points for the game.
n Rogers 54, Ardmore 47: After taking a 46-31 lead into the fourth quarter, Rogers held off a late Ardmore charge to get a 54-47 home win. Ashley Robertson scored 14 points to lead the Pirates, who improved to 10-8 on the season. Morgan Killen and Brodie Belcher added 10 points each for Rogers.
Ardmore was led by Lydia Eubanks who scored 13 points. Sarah Tipton added 11 points for the Tigers.
n James Clemens 38, Muscle Shoals 31: After leading 12-8 following the first quarter, Muscle Shoals could not find its offensive rhythm in a 38-31 home loss to James Clemens. The Jets outscored the home team 30-19 over the final three periods.
Keana Reed and Ardayzha Reeder scored six points each to lead Muscle Shoals. China Leary led James Clements with 10 points on the day.
n Mars Hill 51, Florence 39: Mars Hill pulled away from Florence in the fourth quarter and took a 51-39 victory on Saturday. The Panthers led just 36-32 after three quarters but outscored the Falcons 15-7 in the final period to take control.
Tatyana Rutherford led Mars Hill (15-4) with 19 points while Mary Willis scored 12. CJ Siner was the only Florence player in double figures, with 10 points.
