Payday loan supporters to meet with Muscle Shoals council
By Jennifer Edwards
The TimesDaily

MUSCLE SHOALS — A lobbyist for several payday and title loan company operators is expected to meet with the Muscle Shoals City Council at its regular meeting tonight.

Curtis Pickens, president of the Birmingham-based Pickens Group, confirmed he will attend the work session of tonight’s city council meeting to address the council’s recent interest in a business license moratorium on payday loan, title loan and cash advance companies.

Pickens said he represented multiple operators in the area and expects to have some owners with him at tonight’s meeting.

During their Nov. 5 meeting, the council received copies of moratoriums from two other Alabama cities.

There is no action item on the agenda for tonight’s meeting addressing the possible moratorium.
