RUSSELLVILLE — Russellville police and agents with the Alabama Bureau of Investigation are investigating the homicide of a local woman, officials said.
Russellville Police Chief Chris Hargett confirmed that Lesley Hope Plott, 25, Russellville died early this morning in the 1700 block of North Jackson Avenue.
Hargett said Angel Campos, 33, Russellville, is a suspect in the woman’s death and is in Huntsville Hospital at this time.
Officials said the two have three small children together.
Authorities said it appears the woman’s death was the result of a domestic situation.
“From what we can determine at this point, this was a domestic situation that got out of hand and led to an assault and murder,” Hargett said.
Campos has not been charged at this time.
Authorities said the woman’s body was found lying on the side of Jackson Road, near the entrance to the Catholic church.
Police said when they arrived at the scene, Campos was still there.
Plott was pronounced dead at the scene by Franklin County Coroner Elize Malone.
He said the woman’s body had been sent to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences for an autopsy.
Hargett would not elaborate on how the woman was killed until getting the results from the autopsy.
However, officials said it appeared Plott was beaten and stabbed multiple times.
