ROGERSVILLE — Police said today they likely know the identity of the man who robbed the Regions Bank branch in Rogersville on Tuesday afternoon.

“We‘ve just not been able to locate him,” Rogersville Police Chief Terry Holden said this morning. “We believe the man responsible is from Madison County. We’ve got to find him now.”

Holden said state, local and federal agencies are working with his department in trying to find the man who walked into the bank Tuesday afternoon, told a teller he wanted to make a withdrawal and indicated he was robbing the business.

Holden said he will not release the man’s name until efforts to find him are unsuccessful.

Holden said the robbery took place at 3:36 p.m. at the bank on Lee Street.

“No one was hurt, and the man left as soon as he got the money,” Holden said.

Using a Florence police canine, officers tracked the suspect’s path from the bank to an area about 200 yards away.

“We believe that’s where he had a car parked,” Holden said.

He said the man is also a suspect in bank robberies in Priceville, Guntersville, Cullman, Albertville and Pulaski, Tenn. Those robberies occurred within the past four months.

Anyone with information is asked to call Rogersville police at 256-247-8863 or Crime Stoppers at 256-386-8685.
