PETERSVILLE — Authorities are looking for a man accused of stealing money from the cash drawer of a gas station and shoving the attendant who tried to stop him.

Lauderdale County Sheriff’s investigator Richard Richey said Tatum’s Q-Gas on Cloverdale Road was robbed at 11:45 a.m. Saturday.

Richey said the robber is described as a white man in his 20s wearing a black hooded sweatshirt.

“The man drove up in front of the office in a black Ford F-150 truck and wanted to use the telephone,” Richey said. “He went into the office to use the telephone, and while he was inside, an attendant who was out pumping gas saw him take something from the cash drawer and put it in his pocket.”

Richey said the attendant confronted the man as he left the office and tried to stop him. He said the robber shoved the attendant against the wall and told him to “back off” and got into his truck and drove off.

He said the robber headed south on Alabama 157, according to witnesses.

Richey said no one saw a weapon and no one was injured.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Sheriff’s Department at 256-760-5757 or Crime Stoppers at 256-386-8685.
