Florence police are trying to identify this woman, who they said passed a fake $100 bill at a local business.

FLORENCE — Police are trying to identify a woman they say passed two fake $100 bills at a local business.

Florence police said the bills were passed at Belk’s in Regency Square Mall on Feb. 28.

Detective Jerry Pearson said the bills were “washed out” $5 bills. He said people take $5 bills and wash them in chemicals to remove the ink, then apply new ink and reprint the bill to $100.

“They have a different kind of feel and have a chemical smell to them,” Pearson said.

Anyone knowing this person’s identity or having any information is asked to call police at 256-768-2728 or Shoals Crime Stoppers at 256-386-8685.
