SHEFFIELD — Detectives are trying to determine if the Monday night robbery of a Sheffield business is connected to a robbery committed last week in Florence.
“There are some similarities, so we’re looking to see if it was the same person,” Sheffield police detective Chad Carruth said Tuesday.
Carruth said a man wearing a green mask robbed Sheffield Tobacco and Deli at knifepoint about 6 p.m. Monday. No one was injured in the robbery.
Florence police said a man wearing a green mask robbed D&D Market at Lauderdale 14 and Alabama 20 on Friday night.
The person who robbed D&D Market was described as a white man who was wearing a brown hooded jacket, a green mask and blue jeans. Carruth said the description is similar to the person who robbed Sheffield Tobacco and Deli.
He said the man walked in, pulled a knife and demanded money from the cashier. After the clerk opened the register drawer, the robber turned the cash register around, took the money and left, police said.
“The clerk said he left running toward Raleigh Avenue, where we believe he had a car parked that he used to get away,” Carruth said.
Florence police Sgt. Cliff Billingsley said the robber at D&D Market left on foot and headed toward Lauderdale 14, where police believe he had a car parked that he used to get away.
“At this point, we don’t know if the same person is involved in both (robberies), but we’ll be discussing the robberies with Florence police to see if it could be looking for the same person.”
Monday’s robbery is the third in the Shoals since Friday.
Anyone knowing anything about the robberies is asked to call 256-768-2728 or Shoals Crime Stoppers at 256-386-8685.
