Chaunce Watkins poured in 34 points as Florence improved to 15-5 and 2-3 in Class 6A, Area 16 play with a 71-56 win over Decatur on Tuesday.

The Falcons broke open a 12-all tie to claim a 29-26 halftime lead. Watkins tallied 15 points in the third quarter alone and Florence outscored Decatur 42-30 in the second half.

n Colbert Heights 65, Hackleburg 58: Three players scored in double figures as Colbert Heights (10-7) clipped Hackleburg.

The Wildcats led 34-28 at halftime.

Jeffrey Mitchell led the way for Colbert Heights with 18 points and 14 rebounds, while sophomore Kaleb Suggs added 17 points and 12 rebounds. Cole Claunch chipped in with 14 points.

Sophomore Braydon Shaffer paced the Panthers with 17 points and Dylan Gallaway had 12.

n Athens 50, Muscle Shoals 39: Nathaniel Potts and Jackson Pettus each scored 13 points as Athens (13-7, 4-0) beat Muscle Shoals in Class 5A, Area 16 play.

The Golden Eagles held an 18-15 halftime lead, before outscoring the Trojans 32-24 in the second half.

Ladamian Stanford led Muscle Shoals (5-10, 0-3) with 12 points.

n R.A. Hubbard 76, Covenant Christian 47: Three players scored in double figures as R.A. Hubbard beat Covenant Christian.

The Chiefs led 43-30 at halftime.

Austin Beasley scored 12 points for R.A. Hubbard (9-2), while Deonta Carter added 11 points and 11 rebounds.

Sam Griffin had 18 points for Covenant Christian and Andrew Marks had 10.

n Colbert County 76, Deshler 67: Tobias Qualls scored 22 points and grabbed 19 rebounds to propel Colbert County to a win over Deshler in Class 3A, Area 16 action.

Sam Howard notched 15 points for the Indians (8-9, 3-3), while Jonah Casteel had 13 points and 11 assists. Tyler Lott scored 11.

Thomas Gamble led Deshler with 19 points. D.J. Bailey posted 12 points and Chandler Brown 10.

n Tanner 52, Sheffield 40: Jace Haggermaker scored 10 of his game-high 18 points in the fourth quarter as Tanner topped Sheffield (9-7, 2-2).

Shaquille Carroll led Sheffield with 16 points.

Girls

n Florence 58, Decatur 35: Alexis Sherrod scored 10 of her game-high 20 points in the third quarter as Florence pulled away from Decatur.

Emily Towery added 11 points for the Falcons (6-12, 1-4 Class 6A Area 16). Florence trailed 29-24 at the half before going on a 19-3 run in the third quarter.

n R.A. Hubbard 48, Covenant Christian 31: 5th-ranked R.A. Hubbard got 20 points and 15 rebounds from Alex Gholston as the Chiefs (9-2) handed top-ranked Covenant Christian its second consecutive loss.

R.A. Hubbard led 25-12 at the half.

Anna Claire Noblit notched 16 points for Covenant Christian and Bailey Hill scored 12.

n Hackleburg 56, Colbert Heights 48: Kristen Camp scored a game-high 23 points and pulled down 12 rebounds as Hackleburg (9-5) downed Colbert Heights (9-8).

Colbert Heights’ Destinee Pratt knocked down five 3-pointers and finished with 15 points, while Kelsey Robinette added 10.

n Muscle Shoals 51, Athens 47: DaNesha Byrd led all scorers with 18 points as Muscle Shoals knocked off Athens to claim the top spot in Class 5A, Area 16.

Shana Sherrod added 10 points for Muscle Shoals (4-10, 3-0).

n Tanner 54, Sheffield 4: Sophomore Kelsey Houston scored 16 points and Kacie Dentleegrand added 13 as Tanner went on the road to beat Sheffield.

The Rattlers outscored the Bulldogs 27-0 in the third quarter.

n Deshler 63, Colbert County 33: Class 3A, No. 4 Deshler (15-5, 5-1) beat Colbert County.

Deshler outscored the Indians 32-16 in the second half. Kat Darnell and Keyonda Mason each scored 12 points for Deshler, with Mason adding 11 rebounds. Mija Newsome scored 17 points for Colbert County (4-10, 0-6).
