Redstone Arsenal officer deploying to California for Oscars

HUNTSVILLE (AP) — An Army officer stationed in Alabama has accepted a mission to interview celebrities attending the Academy Awards in Los Angeles.

Al.com reported Col. Martha Brooks, a public affairs officer at Redstone Arsenal, is scheduled to walk the red carpet at the award ceremony Sunday and ask celebrities to give shout-outs to soldiers. She also plans to interview some nominees.

Brooks says she got the job from a fellow Army public affairs officer in Los Angeles who needed someone that wouldn't be intimidated or star struck by Hollywood celebrities.

The trip almost didn't happen when budget cutbacks caused the Army to pull the plug. But Brooks insisted on completing the mission and decided to pay for the trip herself.
