Relay for Life kickoff today

FLORENCE—The American Cancer Society of the Shoals will kick off its Relay for Life event today at noon at the Florence-Lauderdale Coliseum.

The relay will be May 17 at the University of North Alabama, with a fundraising goals of $173,000, according to ACS spokeswoman Megan Lovelace.

This year’s theme is, “Give Cancer the Boot.”

The speaker for the noon event today is 18-year-old cancer survivor Cameron Thorn, a senior at Wilson High School. He is among the honorees for this year’s relay event.
