I have a couple of guns in the closet. They’ve been in one closet or another ever since the late ’50s and neither one of them shot anyone. I’m beginning to think inanimate objects can’t do a whole lot by themselves.
You can remove all the guns — past, present and future — and no one will get shot (with a gun). You also could remove all human beings from the past, present and future and no one would get shot with a gun.
Thus, while I am certainly not a gun advocate and I don’t recall the NRA being an elected body of our government, restricting guns without restricting gun users will not solve the present problems.
Of course, checking a person’s past behavior may be the best that can be done now, but a person’s past does not necessarily predict what the future might bring. Heck, I used to hate broccoli; now I love it!
Remember, thousands, possibly millions of people were mass murdered in history before the gun was invented.
