SHEFFIELD — Simon Ridgeway and Hunter Danley each broke 20 points for Sheffield, as the Bulldogs took down Deshler on Saturday night in the fifth meeting of their boys basketball teams this season.
Ridgeway scored 19 of his game-high 25 in the second half.
Danley accounted for 16 of his 24 before halftime, including 11 in the second quarter, helping Deshler stake a 35-23 lead heading into the break.
Shaq Carroll added 10 points for the Bulldogs, who played without coach Ski Anderson on the sideline. Anderson was out of town attending to a family emergency, Sheffield athletics director David Hufstedler said.
B.J. Bailey scored 12 of his team-high 18 points in the second half for Deshler, which trailed by as many as 18.
The Tigers cut their deficit to 10 mid-fourth quarter before Sheffield responded with an 11-4 run.
Thomas Gamble added 12 points and Chandler Brown 10 for the Tigers.
Lexington 47, Rogers 44: Rogers’ Chase Urban’s potential game-tying 3-pointer at the buzzer went in and then rattled out as Lexington escaped with a victory over the Pirates.
Lexington led by as many 15 in the first half before Rogers rallied. The Pirates cut the margin to 33-31 after three periods and almost forced overtime.
Wade McNutt led Lexington with 16 points, followed by Jake Rogers with 11 and Ethan Gray with 10. Caleb Morrow paced Rogers with 17 points and Brady Murks scored 13.
R.A. Hubbard 62, Colbert County 53: Jimique Jones scored 20 points to power R.A. Hubbard past visiting Colbert County.
Tevin Ray added 15 points and John Orr had 12 for the Chiefs 913-3). Tobias Qualls led Colbert County with 14, followed by Tyler Lott with 13 and Sam Howard with 11.
Mars Hill 74, Shoals Christian 28: Mars Hill jumped out to a 40-15 halftime lead as the Panthers rolled past Shoals Christian.
Landon Willis scored 16 points to lead the Panthers (21-5). Thomas Swinea added 11 points and Mark McWilliams had 10 for Mars Hill.
Matthew Russ led Shoals Christian with 14 points.
Loretto 65, Wayne County 50: Loretto outscored Wayne County 20-7 in the second period en route to a road win against the Wildcats.
Lane Myhan led Loretto with 14 points. Carson Kelly scored 10 points to lead Wayne County.
Girls
Belgreen 62, Fayette County 60: Seventh-grader Jasmine Martin scored nine of her 16 points in the fourth quarter to spark Belgreen past Fayette County.
Nicole Borden finished with 14 points and 14 rebounds for the Bulldogs (7-17). Seventh-grader Abby Hester added 10 points and 10 assists for Belgreen.
Deshler 52, Sheffield 24: Deshler opened up a 22-0 lead in the first period en route to an easy victory against Sheffield.
Lauren Cantrell scored 18 points to lead Deshler. Tizia Pride led Sheffield with 11 points.
Mars Hill 52, Shoals Christian 35: Mars Hill took control early and went on to beat Shoals Christian.
The Panthers led 16-8 after one period and extended the margin to 31-10 at halftime.
Mary Willis finished with 10 points to lead Mars Hill (21-6). Grace Matthews scored 12 points and Kaylyn Davis had 10 for Shoals Christian.
R.A. Hubbard 55, Colbert County 43: R. A. Hubbard broke open a tight game in the third period as the Chiefs beat Colbert County.
The score was tied at 17 at halftime. Hubbard then outscored the Indians 23-4 in the third period to take a 40-21 lead into the final eight minutes.
Alex Gholston led Hubbard (12-3) with 14 points. Aresha Sherrod and Ashlen McCoy chipped in with 10 points each for the Chiefs.
Mija Newsome scored 13 points and Iya Newsome had 12 for Colbert County.
Loretto 38, Wayne County 36: Wayne County had a chance to tie or win in the final seconds but turned the ball over before it could get a shot off as Loretto escaped with a road win.
Rachel Burden scored 19 points to lead Loretto. Morgan Ann Mathis led Wayne County (8-14, 3-5 district) with 12 points.
