Saban gives Hart, White updates
By Mark Edwards
Of the Decatur Daily
Alabama coach Nick Saban said running back/kick returner Dee Hart and receiver DeAndrew White each underwent knee surgery today.
Saban broke the news on his weekly radio show. Both will miss the rest of the season after suffering injuries in Saturday’s 33-14 win over Ole Miss.
This marks five Tide players who have suffered season-ending injuries this year. In addition to Hart and White, there’s running back Jalston Fowler (knee), safety Jarrick Williams (knee) and wide receiver Chris Black (shoulder).
Saban said Fowler was “leg-whipped” in the Tide’s win over Western Kentucky, but the other four were hurt in “freaky” accidents.
Black was shoved to the ground in practice, and Hart and White “weren’t really touched when they got hurt,” Saban said.
Tide practice: Saban put his team through practice Thursday in full pads, and he said it wasn’t the most productive workout.
The players won’t practice Friday, Saturday and Sunday, which will give them a chance to return to their homes.
“It was like they had one foot in the parking lot,” Saban said.
He said he would prefer not giving his players so much time between practices.
“I hate giving guys three days off, but you don’t get a lot done if you don’t have a purpose,” he said.
