MUSCLE SHOALS — Shoals Hospital was granted full accreditation by the Joint Commission after an October inspection and review at the hospital in Muscle Shoals.
The Joint Commission is a national not-for-profit accrediting agency that accredits more than 19,000 health care facilities in the United States.
During a Joint Commission review, on-site surveyors inspect compliance of more than 1,700 health care standards. Shoals Hospital had six direct and nine indirect compliance citations that were addressed by the hospital staff, according to a hospital press release.
Health care facilities are reviewed a minimum of every three years but are subject to intermittent visits if the commission deems it necessary.
Helen Keller Hospital had its Joint Commission accreditation renewed in October, and Eliza Coffee Memorial Hospital’s accreditation will be reviewed in 2013.
