MOBILE (AP) — Schools in south Alabama are dismissing students early because of the threat of flooding from storms that are moving across the area.

Officials in Geneva, Houston and Henry counties all decided to end classes early today as forecasters warned of possible flooding that could cover roads.

The National Weather Service issued a flood watch for the southern end of the state.

The National Weather Service says colliding systems are creating a risk of severe storms in south Alabama. Rainfall totals could exceed 4 inches.

Wind gusts up to 30 mph are possible in central Alabama, along with heavy rains. Forecasters say winds could be even stronger in the Tennessee Valley, with sustained winds up to 30 mph and gusts to 40 mph.
