Starting QB spot still open

AUBURN - The starting quarterback position is still open for the taking at Auburn as Kiehl Frazier and Clint Moseley each vie for the role in Saturday’s game with Ole Miss.
“We’ll go through it, and we’ll look at it starting (today),” Auburn coach Gene Chizik said Tuesday morning. “We’ll make a decision later in the week.”
Chizik say he doesn’t expect the choice between Frazier, who went 9-for-14 for 118 yards and an interception before being pulled at halftime Saturday and Moseley, who went 13-for-21 for 163 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions, to be a game-time decision.
“I think it’s (based) a lot on what is the comfort level is with the game plan that we’re implementing and the comfort level with how they’re executing that and what they’re doing in that regard,” he said. “Some of it is going to be with just performance Tuesday and (today), how they’re picking up the game plan, things of that nature.”
Frazier, who has started all five games for Auburn (1-4, 0-3 SEC) this season and is 56-for-103 for 664 yards with just two touchdowns and eight interceptions. His quarterback rating (99.4) is ranked 118th of 122 qualified players according to Elias Sports Bureau.
Offensive coordinator Scot Loeffler said Frazier and Moseley, who were each sacked four times against Arkansas, had an equal number of reps with the first team during Tuesday’s practice. Loeffler reiterated Chizik’s remarks that the starter would be decided during the week and is not a game-time decision.
Bray to play Saturday
Wide receiver Quan Bray will return to action against Ole Miss on Saturday after being suspended for last week’s game with Arkansas, Auburn coach Gene Chizik announced Tuesday morning.
“Quan will be playing this week,” Chizik said. “He’s going to start practicing again with us today. He was out with us Sunday night, but we’re going to see where he fits, and he’s going to have to work his way back into whatever role he gets for Saturday.”
Bray was suspended for last week’s game after being arrested during a traffic stop on the University of West Georgia on Sept. 27.
Trovon Reed filled in for Bray as the slot receiver and punt returner against Arkansas. Reed and Bray are listed OR at both slot receiver and punt returner on this week’s depth chart.
Bray has not been available for comment since his arrest.
Quick hits
Chizik said cornerback Chris Davis and defensive end Dee Ford are both a “little beat up” and will be evaluated throughout the week. Both Davis and Ford remained listed as starters on the depth chart. … Although Loeffler prefers to call plays from the press box, said he plans to remain on the sidelines during games to help the young quarterbacks. Loeffler has been on the sidelines the past two games.
