State monitors for gas price gouging as storm nears
By Mary Sell

MONTGOMERY — The Alabama Department of Agriculture and Industries says that it is monitoring for gasoline price gouging as Tropical Storm Isaac approaches.

Alabamians have been encouraged to stock up on store supplies, including gasoline.

“So far, we don’t have any reports of (gouging),” deputy agriculture commissioner Brett Hall said this morning. “We want people to give us a heads up if they see it.”

He said gauging is a price jump of 40 percent or more.

To report gouging, call the department’s division of weights and measures at 334-240-7134.
