‘Swamp People,’ anglers highlight Gander Mountain grand opening
By Bernie Delinski

FLORENCE — Bassmaster professional anglers and stars from the television series “Swamp People” are among features of this weekend’s Gander Mountain grand opening.

The 45,000-square-foot store at 340 Seville St. already is open, but is planning official opening events Friday, Saturday and Sunday, store officials said.

Headquartered in St. Paul, Minn., Gander Mountain is the nation’s largest retail network of outdoor speciality stores for hunting, fishing, camping, marine and outdoor lifestyle products and services.

The Florence location is the third in a seven-store expansion. Stores also have been announced for Valdosta, Ga., and Morrisville, N.C., this year. Additional stores soon will be announced, company officials said.

Gander Mountain was founded in 1960 and operates 114 stores in 23 states.

Florence will be the second Alabama city with a Gander Mountain. Huntsville has one on Memorial Parkway.

This is the third sporting goods chain in Florence, competing against Dick’s Sporting Goods and Hibbett Sports.

Grand opening appearances and times include:

  • Troy Landry and Chase Landry, stars of History’s “Swamp People,” will appear noon-4 p.m. Sunday.

  • Bassmaster angler Dean Rojas, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Sunday.

  • Bassmaster angler Russ Lane, noon-4 p.m. Sunday.

  • Bassmaster angler Randy Howell, 10 a.m.- 4 p.m. Saturday and noon-4 p.m. Sunday.

  • Bass angler Denny Brauer, 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Sunday.
