MUSCLE SHOALS — The new Center for Technology should be let for bids no later than Oct. 24, Superintendent
Jeff Wooten told the board of education at a Thursday night work session.
The bidding could begin sooner, however, if the Alabama Building Commission approves plans before Oct. 24, he added.
“We have about $3 million set aside for this project,” Wooten said. “It’s not as much as we’d like, but that’s also not to say that we might not decide to borrow more.”
The building will house six, eight or 10 programs, which would cost the board $3.3 million, $5.4 million or $6.4 million, respectively. Wooten said the project will be bid out as a base with two alternates, meaning contractors will actually give the board three prospective prices: one price to construct a six-program building, one price to construct an eight-program building and a final price to construct a 10-program building.
