Muscle Shoals and Haleyviile split a baseball doubleheader Tuesday, with the Lions winning the opener 11-2 and the Trojans bouncing back to win 2-1 in the second game.
Bradley Bailey earned the win in the first game, pitching four hitless innings. He also had two singles. Hunter Hood added two hits, including a double.
In the second game, Muscle Shoals got only one hit but scored two unearned runs in the fourth inning. Jacob Arthur pitched four scoreless innings, allowing just two hits for the win. Kyle McCollister allowed three hits and one unearned run in the final three innings to earn the save
Florence 15-6, Lawrence County 3-8: James Hillhouse had two doubles, a single and six RBIs to lead Florence past Lawrence County in the first game of a doubleheader.
Hillhouse also earned the win in the opener, pitching four innings. Scottie Perez earned a three-inning save.
Isaac Dillard added three hits, including a home run, and drove in three runs while Liles Hillhouse add two hits and three RBIs. Ethan Eck chipped in with two hits, including a double.
In the second game, Lawrence County scored eight runs in the sixth inning to wipe out a 6-0 deficit.
The Red Devils (12-5) had three walks and six hits in the inning.
James Hillhouse led the Falcons with two doubles and three RBIs. Liles Hillhouse and Hunter Kiel added two hits each.
Sheffield 4-0, Central 0-12: Peyton Stracener pitched a five-inning no-hitter as Central bounced back from a first-game loss to earn a split with Sheffield.
Stracener struck out seven and got offensive support from Zach Williams, who had three hits and five RBIs. Murphy Harrison and Justin Pennington added two hits apiece.
Central (19-5) scored four runs in the first and added five in the fifth.
In the first game, Simon Ridgeway scattered eight hits in earning the win for Sheffield (14-8). Steve Roden had two hits and Mitchell Lovell drove in three runs, including a two-run home run.
Harrison and Jacob Gean had two hits each for Central.
Brooks 12, East Lawrence 0: Austin Michael knocked in five runs and Austin Broadfoot drove in three runs as Brooks routed East Lawrence in five innings.
The Lions (14-5) finished with 18 hits, including four by Riley Phillips.
Drake Tucker had three doubles, while Brady Bedingfield, Michael and Broadfoot had three hits each. Devon Henson added two doubles. Tanner Graham got the win, limiting the Eagles to one hit.
Collinwood 13, Wayne County 1: Brier Daniel got 14 of the game’s 15 outs by strikeouts as Collinwood beat Wayne County in five innings.
Daniel allowed three hits and walked two for the Trojans (5-2), and helped his own cause with three RBIs. Ben Ragan had two hits and four RBIs, while Will Ragan had two hits.
Shoals Christian 11-15, Covenant Christian 1-1: Will Bishop threw a five-inning no-hitter in the first game and Christian Shipe allowed one hit in five innings as Shoals Christian (10-2, 4-0) swept Covenant Christian.
Bishop struck out 14 and had two hits and two RBIs for the Flame. Josh Vardaman led Shoals Christian with three hits, including a double, and drove in two runs. Tanner Bozeman, Cooper Melvin and Mitchell Boyd had two hits each.
Shipe struck out eight in the second game and allowed only a single by Ty Brown.
Bozeman and Shipe each had two hits and two RBIs, and Bishop and Boyd had two hits apiece.
Lauderdale County 8, Clements 2: Caid Cornelius allowed three hits and no runs in six innings of relief as Lauderdale County picked up a win over Clements in its Class 3A, Area 16 opener.
Clements scored two runs in the top of the first inning, but the Tigers answered with three runs in the bottom of the first and Cornelius shut the Colts down the rest of the way.
John Trousdale had two hits for Lauderdale County (4-16, 1-0) while Adam Berryhill had a two-run single. Seth Hamilton led Clements with a single and double.
Hackleburg 15-16, Belgreen 1-0: Hackleburg swept Belgreen in a Class 1A, Area doubleheader, defeating the Bulldogs by a combined score of 31-1.
Dalton Hamby led Hackleburg in the first game with two hits, including a double, and two RBIs. Hunter Whitten was also 2-for-2 with an RBI. Andrew Jones was the winning pitcher, with two strikeouts in two innings.
Jones led the way in the second game with a two-run home run. Whitten had a double for Hackleburg (12-1, 4-0) while Joshua Jones, Peyton Crowe and Kristian Jones each had two hits. Hamby struck out four in two innings for the win.
Mars Hill 1, Colbert County 0: Glenn Irby and Thomas Burrows combined on a one-hitter to help Mars Hill to an area win against Colbert County.
Irby pitched five no-hit innings to earn the win for Mars Hill (13-7, 3-0 area), walking four and recording six strikeouts. Burrows worked the final two innings to get the save, allowing one hit and striking out five.
Tyler Craft took the loss for Colbert County despite giving up just two hits and striking out seven in six innings.
Burrows singled home Irby with the game’s only run in the bottom of the third.
Lexington 3, Rogers 2: Ryan Smith earned the complete-game win and also had two hits for Lexington as the Golden Bears edged Rogers.
Smith allowed five hits and recorded seven strikeouts in earning the victory.
Jacob Cole had a two-run single in the top of the second that put Lexington ahead for good. Caleb Morrow had two doubles for the Pirates (7-14), while Alex Woodard had two hits, including a double and two RBIs.
Vina 10, Cherokee 4: Cody Renfrow pitched a four-hitter with nine strikeouts as Vina defeated Cherokee.
Drake Hester had two hits and four RBIs to lead the Red Devils, while Brodie Roberts had two hits and two RBIs. Renfrow, Andrew Hester and Reed Hamilton added two hits each for Vina (7-4).
Softball
Central 7, West Limestone 1: Bailey Nelson went 3 for 3 to spark Central to an area win against West Limestone.
Halie Liles added a double and two RBIs for the Wildcats and Destiney Ingram had one hit and two RBIs.
Abby Keener pitched a three-hitter to earn the win for Central (6-6-1, 2-0 area).
Mars Hill 2, Deshler 1: Haley Arnold’s sacrifice fly brought home Alex Lauderdale with the winning run in the bottom of the eighth as Mars Hill edged Deshler in an area game.
Mallory Spurlock pithed a three-hitter for the Panthers and recorded 14 strikeouts. Abby Gooch had two hits for Mars Hill (12-7, 2-1 area).
Colbert Heights 12, Waterloo 0: Kelsey Robinette went 3 for 3 with four RBIs to power Colbert Height past Waterloo in five innings.
Robinette had a double and a triple among her three hits. Tiffany Church had two hits, including a triple, and drove in three runs, while Kaelyn Holt added a double and a single for the Wildcats.
Morgan Tedford allowed just one hit in four innings to earn the win for Colbert Heights (6-1).
Colbert County 10, Westminster Christian 0: Sydnie Brown led Colbert County with three hits and four RBIs as the Indians pounded Westminster Christian in five innings.
Anna Grace Owens pitched a one-hitter with eight strikeouts to earn the win. Owens also finished with two hits and three RBIs, including a two-run homer. Alyssa Heinke and Sabrina Green added two hits each for Colbert County (10-2).
Athens 5, Muscle Shoals 2: Athens took advantage of several Muscle Shoals errors, scoring four unearned runs in a victory over the Trojans.
Krymson Lashley (7-3) allowed only one earned run in taking the loss for Muscle Shoals (16-7, 1-1 area). Lashley also led the Trojans offensively with a double.
Florence 4, Austin 3: Ellison Barrett accounted for four RBIs to lead Florence past Austin for a Class 6A, Area 15 win.
Barrett finished 2-for-3 with a double and a two-run homer.
Aleah Garth led Austin with two singles and an RBI, while Anna Leigh Mitchell, Mallory Malone and Erin Claborn had two singles.
Haley Shollenberger got the win, striking out four while giving up nine hits.
Davis Watkins, Alex Jones and Madison Olive had two hits each for the Falcons.
Wilson 8, Rogers 0: Tiffany McIntyre and Harlee Murphy each had two-run singles in a four-run fourth inning as Wilson blanked Rogers in Class 4A, Area 16 play.
Madison Daniel and Mackenzie Daniel added two hits apiece for the Warriors (10-8, 2-0) in support of Brianna Terrell, who allowed two hits and struck out 11.
Collinwood 8, Wayne County 1: Mariah Holt homered twice and drove in three runs to spark Collinwood past Wayne County.
Darbee Hollis also homered and finished with three RBIs for the Trojans (8-1). Gretchen Greer got the win. Cyler Downs homered for Wayne County.
Golf
Lauderdale County 160, Mars Hill 161, Central 170: Mars Hill’s Juddy Carlton and Lauderdale County’s Walker Gordon each shot even-par 36 to tie for medalists honors at Blackberry Trail. Austin Gean shot 38 for Central.
In girls play, Central’s Haley Crosby shot 40 and Mars Hill’s Hannah Pope shot 44.
Florence 174, Huntsville 175: Barry Flannery and Austin Richardson each shot 39 as Florence edged Huntsville at Hampton Cove. Bennett Bailey shot 39 for the Panthers.
In girls play, Huntsville beat Florence 147-155 as Emily Lankford shot 43. Catherine Twesme shot 50 for Florence.
Soccer
Athens Bible 2, Mars Hill 1 (boys); George Achard had the only goal for Mars Hill as Athens Bible dealt the Panthers an area loss.
Athens Bible took a 1-0 lead at the half and went ahead 2-0 midway through the second half before Achard cut the lead in half. But the Panthers (4-4-1, 2-0) couldn’t get the equalizer against ABS (9-1).
Mars Hill 4, Athens Bible 0 (girls): Olivia Willingham scored three goals, including two in the first half, as Mars Hill beat Athens Bible.
Anna Katherine Green also had a goal for the Panthers, while Anna Brown & Allie Rappuhn each had an assist.
Kayla Terry finished with seven saves, with Kelsie Knox, Marlie Wear, Noelle Hall and Cheyanne Golden playing well defensively.
