DECATUR — The University of North Alabama softball team got its offense going after the third inning in each game during a pair of victories at the UAH Charger Chillout on Sunday at Decatur’s Wilson Morgan Park.

The Lions totaled 14 runs over the final four frames during wins over Florida Tech 11-5 and Ohio Dominican 6-1 to wrap up a perfect 6-0 showing at the event.

The wins move the Lions to 10-0 on the season.

Against Florida Tech, the Lions totaled seven extra-base hits in the game and pulled away with a five-run seventh inning to get the win. Shelby Goodman doubled twice and drove in a run while Summer Wilkerson hit her first-career homer as a Lion.

With UNA leading 1-0 in the top of the second inning, Wilkerson’s line drive just cleared the centerfield fence. The blast also scored Athens’ Nikki Hodges, who opened the scoring with a two-out RBI single.

After the Panthers responded in the bottom of the third with three runs to tie the game, North Alabama regained the lead with three runs of its own in the top of the fourth.

The Lions took advantage of an error to score twice before an RBI-double by Wilson High product Harlie Barkley gave UNA a 6-3 lead.

Florida Tech added one more run in the bottom of the fourth before the Lions’ big seventh inning put the game out of reach. A lead-off triple by Barkley represented the first of 10 batters sent to the plate in the frame. UNA totaled five runs off six hits in the inning to grab an 11-4 lead.

North Alabama’s Breanna Riley (5-0) of Hartselle picked up the complete-game victory in the circle after scattering seven hits over seven innings with eight strikeouts.

Goodman, Hodges and Ardmore’s Callie Steadman each finished the game 2-for-4 at the plate while Barkley was 2-for-5 with a double and a triple.

UNA trailed Ohio Dominican 1-0 heading into the top of the fifth inning before sending nine batters to the plate.

After an RBI-single by Wilkerson tied the game, Barkley’s hit up the middle scored two runs to give the Lions a 3-1 lead.

In the top of the seventh, North Alabama got an RBI-single by Mallory Patterson, who played at Lawrence County High, and another two-run hit from Goodman to go ahead 6-1.

Austin High product Haley Barnette (5-0) of Decatur earned the win after pitching the complete game with six hits and four strikeouts.

Barkley finished the day with five hits after going 3-for-4 with two more RBI against ODU. Patterson and Wilkerson also each posted 2-for-3 performances at the plate.

North Alabama will host a 14-team tournament beginning Friday at the Florence SportsPlex.

On Friday, UNA will play Southwest Baptist at 4 p.m. followed by a 6 p.m. game against Wisconsin-Parkside.
