FLORENCE — Police are looking for two men who apparently attacked and robbed a University of North Alabama student at gunpoint early this morning while he was walking home.
Reports indicate the assault and robbery took place around 12:30 a.m. on Nellie Avenue, near the Hermitage Drive intersection.
Florence police detective Sgt. Cliff Billingsley said the victim, a 21-year-old UNA student, said he was walking on Nellie Avenue when two men, wearing masks came up behind him.
The victim said the two men “hit him in the head with a handgun,” Billingsley said. “And then they put a gun to his head and demanded his money. He gave them all the money he had and they left.” Authorities said the victim was taken to Eliza Coffee Memorial Hospital where he was treated and later released.
Anyone knowing anything about the assault and robbery is asked to call 256-768-2728 or Shoals Crime Stoppers at 256-386-8685.
