Weather alters local Veterans Day events
By Tom Smith

Rainy weather has canceled the annual Tuscumbia Veterans Day Parade, while other activities have been moved indoors.

Charlie Grimmitt, Post Commander American Legion Post 31 in Tuscumbia, said the annual parade has been called off, but a program that was to be at the Colbert County Courthouse will proceed.

“It’s just been moved to the Tuscumbia Church of Christ annex building,” Grimmitt said.

The building is at Main Street and Fourth Street. The event will begin at 11:45 a.m., with Command Sgt. Maj. Angel Clark Davis, a graduate of Deshler High School, the guest speaker.

The University of North Alabama’s annual Veterans Day Commemoration Ceremony was scheduled to be at the Memorial Amphitheatre, but has been moved to the Performance Center in the Gulliott University Center.

The event begins at 10 a.m. The ceremony will feature performances by the Pride of Dixie band and the University Chorale.
