Wilson was favored to win the Lauderdale County volleyball tournament Saturday and the Warriors didn’t disappoint.
Sweeping four matches, including two from Class 2A state power Lexington, Wilson powered its way to the championship while tuning up for postseason play that begins Thursday with the Class 4A, Area 16 tournament.
Wilson dropped only one set in the tournament. The Warriors (39-8) beat Florence 25-8, 25-6 and Mars Hill 25-22, 25-13. Wilson reached the championship match with a 25-17, 25-16 victory over Lexington. In the final, Wilson emerged with a 25-10, 24-26, 15-8 victory.
Ciarra Edwards led Wilson with 56 kills, 12 aces and 12 blocks, while Lexie Bradley finished with 37 kills, 11 aces and 25 digs. Brianna Terrell had 90 assists and 10 aces, while Jennifer Schroeder had a team-high 41 digs.
Also for Wilson, Sierra Rinehard and Harlee Murphy finished with 15 digs, while Ashley Arreola and Selena Wear each had seven kills and six blocks.
Lexington finished 3-2, downing Rogers once and Central twice before falling in the championship match.
Lexington opened with a 25-14, 25-11 against Rogers before outlasting Central in three sets, 25-23, 29-25, 15-12.
Lexington (35-8) took the rematch with Central much more easily, sweeping the two sets 25-11, 25-15.
Sydney Corum led Lexington with a combined 52 kills and 13 blocks while Addie McGee had 43 kills and seven blocks. Savannah Stults also had a good tournament with 102 assists.
Host Central finished 3-2, posting wins over Lauderdale County (25-11, 25-13), Brooks (25-17, 25-17) and Mars Hill (25-23, 25-18) while losing twice to Lexington (25-15, 25-11; 23-25, 25-19, 12-15).
Anna Rae Montgomery led the Wildcats with 48 kills, while Shelby Huckaba had 22 kills and 49 digs. Madison Floyd had 28 kills and 12 blocks, while teammate Hannah Kohler had 40 digs and 15 kills. Abby Keener was credited with 112 assists, Brooke Dial had 17 kills and Andi Kimbrough had 89 assists. Malia Patterson finished with 12 blocks.
Colbert County tournament
Deshler downed Muscle Shoals 25-18, 25-15, 25-23 to claim the Colbert County championship.
The Tigers (35-9) beat Sheffield (25-6, 25-5, 25-7) and Colbert County (25-6, 25-18, 25-4) to reach the championship match.
Keyonda Mason finished with 31 kills and 14 blocks to lead the Tigers. Julia Burton had 33 kills, while Lauren Cantrell had 40 assists.
Also for Deshler, Josie Waddell had seven assists against Sheffield and Anna Wilbanks had four digs. Sidney Malone had eight digs and Cat Darnell five blocks against Colbert County. Christian Darnell and Wilbanks had four digs each against Muscle Shoals.
The Trojans (22-21) beat Colbert Heights 25-14, 25-19, 25-14 in the first round.
Annabeth Alexander led Muscle Shoals with 21 kills, while Alex Hillman had 18 digs and Arsheana Rhodes 14.
Destiney Smith finished with 24 assists and Rachel Hunter contributed eight blocks.
Colbert County dropped Cherokee 25-16, 17-25, 25-16, 25-12 in the first round.
For Cherokee, Lindsey Wallace had six kills, while Sam Worsham, Caylee Rutledge and Jenna Askew had three kills each.
College volleyball
UNA won its third match in a row, topping Kentucky State 25-9, 25-10, 25-8 in just 54 minutes.
De’Licia Hutchins and Cara Gregg paced the Lions with eight kills each while Hope Rayburn finished with 33 assists. Alex Panks led the Lions with eight digs and five aces.
UNA is at home today against West Alabama at 1 p.m. at Flowers Hall.
