A wind advisory will be in effect locally from 6 p.m. today until 6 a.m. Tuesday, with gusts up to 40 mph possible.
The National Weather Service office in Huntsville issued the advisory in anticipation of a storm front that also will bring showers and a possible thunderstorm before midnight, then rain likely after midnight.
East winds are expected to be 15 to 20 mph tonight and decrease to 10 to 15 mph after midnight, according to the weather service. Gusts could reach 35 to 40 mph, and possibly higher in high elevations.
Winds at those speeds can cause difficulty for motorists, particularly those driving high-profile vehicles. Officials also advise ensuring loose outdoor objects like patio furniture and trash cans are secure.
