Woman killed, 4-year-old daughter injured in Colbert crash

LOCUST SHORES — One person is dead and her 4-year-old daughter has been injured in a two-car accident that occurred during the pre-dawn hours today, officials said.

The accident happened just after 5 a.m. at U.S. 72 and Florida Lane, which is just east of Alabama 247 in wetern Colbert County.

Shelia Warren, 34, Cherokee, was pronounced dead at the scene by Colbert County Coroner Carlton Utley.

Warren's daughter was taken to Helen Keller Hospital to receive treatment for minor injuries, officials said.

Emergency workers at the scene said the accident involved a small car and a log truck. Both vehicles were traveling east on U.S. 72. They said the car, driven by the victim, crashed ran into the rear of the log truck.

The driver of the truck, Richard Anthony Ford, 39, Vina, was not injured, officials said.

Troopers are still investigating.
