HUNTSVILLE — A Muscle Shoals teenager died Sunday morning at Huntsville Hospital from injuries she sustained Saturday night in a traffic accident, officials said.
Kaylynn Oliver, 18, was involved in a one-car accident and died later at the hospital, troopers said.
Troopers with the Quad-Cities post said they were notified Sunday morning that Oliver died at 11:23 a.m.
Reports indicate she was a passenger in a car driven by her boyfriend, Nicholas Heath Woodley, 18, who also is from Muscle Shoals.
Woodley was injured and was taken to Russellville Hospital, officials said.
Emergency personnel said he appeared to have sustained minor injuries.
The accident happened on Franklin 60, just north of Russellville after 11 p.m. Saturday, troopers said.
Authorities said Woodley was driving a 2006 Dodge Charger and was traveling west on Franklin 60.
Emergency crews at the scene said it was their understanding that Woodley and Oliver were going to a friend's house in the Briarleaf subdivision in Russellville.
Authorities at the scene said it appeared Woodley lost control of the car at a curve, ran off the road and hit a tree head-on.
Emergency personnel said Oliver was trapped inside the car and had to be extricated by members of the Russellville Fire Department.
Oliver is the 51st traffic fatality in northwest Alabama and the southern Tennessee counties of Wayne and Lawrence this year. She is the third fatality in December.
