You Said It

“I cannot believe the American people is going to stand by and allow the government to cut Medicare and Social Security. The Social Security money does not belong to the government. It belongs to the people that put into it and worked all their lives paying into Social Security. That is their money. It’s time the American people stood up for themselves. We’ve got to stand up for ourselves before the government takes everything away from us.”

“I can see why people up on 43 and people here in Florence get killed every day ... They don’t know how to drive. They pull out right in front of you, turn in front of you and don’t use turn signals and cross three lanes to turn left when they could have gotten over there in the clear lane. People need to learn how to drive. I don’t know who is teaching them how to drive around here now, but whoever it is they’re sure not doing a good job.”

“High five to the letter writer Wednesday. It is a shame that our Social Security and Medicare is in jeopardy. In II Timothy 5:8, it states that if you do not provide for your own family and relatives, you are worse than an unbeliever. It seems that the Lord has been removed from our governmental offices and we don’t have a chance in this future.”

“It looks like a three-way stop sign would solve St. Florian’s problem.”

“I do hope you know that mass shootings are in the news because they are so rare. The truth is that less than 400 people a year are killed by rifles in America, which is about half of the number that are beaten to death or kicked to death. So, we really need to concentrate on the issue of mental health awareness and the need that chronic mentally ill people have for effective treatment and not go off on some wild goose chase about gun control.”

“Arming teachers in schools is just totally stupid. It can only cause many more problems than exist now. The only smart thing to do is to outlaw all automatic weapons of any kind right now.”

“When will people realize and face the fact that abortion or gay marriage has absolutely nothing to do with whether weapons of mass destruction that slaughtered 20 kids in Connecticut should be abolished or not. I don’t understand it.”

“Thursday, I read a letter to the editor as well as a statement in the You Said It column whereby both individuals were attempting to equate and compare activities of Planned Parenthood to the atrocities at Sandy Hook Elementary School. How very sad. Apparently both people are graduates of the Todd Akins School of Theology. I would suggest they do some research with a reputable source so they can become better informed citizens.”

“I don’t think the Muscle Shoals policeman should be fired. I think more of us may have to kill deer at the price of food nowadays.”

“There is some very essential information for seniors in last Sunday’s paper. If you did not read the article about property taxes and you are over 65, I urge you to go back and read it. The tax commissioners put the burden on the taxpayers to find out about an exemption. But how do you know where to look for something if you don’t even know it exists? Read the article. You may be paying property taxes that you don’t owe.”

“If I took my rifle on TVA Reservation and started shooting, would I not be held as a terrorist act?”

“If the Muscle Shoals Police Department can shoot deer off the highway, why don’t they change the state laws so every American deer hunter can shoot deer off the highway? That way we won’t have to sit in the tree stands and freeze and we can shoot deer and make a safer place for everybody to drive.”

“Just got through reading the latest report. The stock markets are up. Unemployment is down. Hiring is up. Housing is up. Unemployment went way down. The only thing standing I see now in the way for a bright economic future is Republicans and the House of Representatives. Maybe, just maybe, the American people will change that the next election.”

“I wonder who in the world these people that is making $400,000/$450,000 a year, are they going to chip in and feed these poor, little old kids whose daddies are making minimum wages at work, when they start taking out on them? Who is going to feed those kids? Somebody get a grip.”

“With Friday’s TimesDaily news having two major editorials piling on the Republicans, who are striving to calling our nation back to financial sanity, and one local public servant being charged for breaking three laws, it seems like life in the Shoals is back to normal.”
