"Just thinking. Why would the governor appoint someone to fill a position when that person cannot win an election with more than one try? It’s just something to think about."

"I drive on Highway 72 every day. I know a lot of people get very aggravated driving on this highway. I wish people would understand that if you are driving slower than the flow of traffic, get out of the left lane into the right. The signs already say ‘Slower traffic keep right.’ And people will block and clog the road every day, every time you get on the road and really hinder the flow of traffic and aggravate people."

"If the Republicans’ response on the fiscal cliff now hadn’t opened the eyes to the average American, then I don’t know what will. They’re wanting to cut Medicaid and Medicare instead of our billionaire friends just simply going back to the tax structure they had under Reagan and Clinton. What a shame."

"It’s 6:20 a.m. Quick, go outside and look at the sky. In the east, there’s one star, and then tell me there’s not no Jesus."

"The fiscal cliff should be the least of our worries, with the U.S. dollar now worth two bright, shiny 1963 pennies and the richest Americans making the equivalent of 5,000 1963 dollars a year. No, the government is a big, fat sow. We need to wean all those little piglets that are sucking her dry."

"This is to Gov. Bentley. He’s acting like a little boy who has lost all his marbles just because he’s a Republican and our president is a Democrat. He really needs to expand our Medicaid program and quit acting like a child."

"This is to the person complaining because food stamps does not pay for their dish detergent. I work to pay for my dish detergent. I work to buy my groceries, and I work to pay for your groceries. How about you getting a job and working a little bit? Then I would not have to work so hard".

"New taxes on the wealthy. It will be Obama’s way or no way. He is like a dictator."

"I was calling about the lady who said she wished people wouldn’t dump their animals on the side of the road. You know, I just can’t imagine putting a dog on the side of the road, or a cat. Those people, they’re just not tender-hearted."

"I wish the Democrats would lay off of the Republicans and start thinking about this country. They’ve got children and grandchildren the same as the Republicans do that’s going to suffer through what he’s doing to this country. Why don’t they quit pounding each other? Why don’t he run this country and do something for the country? He better start doing it or everybody’s going down the drain."

"Stop the whining about the license commissioner in Lauderdale County. There is no one in Lauderdale County that has a better work ethic or who is more knowledgeable than William Smith. The best man won."

"Don’t be fooled by this dog and pony show about the fiscal cliff at Washington. The fiscal cliff was enacted to force the government to get their spending under control. But don’t worry. President Obama will issue one of his presidential directives and everybody will pay higher taxes and everything will be OK."

"Food for thought. If an Alabama resident won the Tennessee lottery, would Alabama tax that income? The answer is yes. Why not have a lottery?"

"Obama needs to be impeached. Quoting from his response that he will let the nation go over the cliff rather than give in to Republicans ... who does he think he is?"

"To the person that called in You Said It about adding dish detergent, toilet paper, soap, etc., to food stamps, you called in. So, you have a phone. Drop your phone service and use that extra money for those things."

"Every time the courts release a drug addict who has been jailed many times, they keep releasing him, all of them ... and those that are killing people or injuring people or breaking into their homes and scaring them to death, they all should be put away for the public’s safety. But, if nothing else, put them in a pen somewhere. Just get rid of them."

"The first lesson in all civic classes should be on the importance of reading your daily and weekly local newspapers."

"I don’t think any illegals should be given special rates for college tuition or special privileges at any school regardless of how they got here or how long they have been here. They should get legal. We don’t get special privileges when we enter their countries. We might get put in jail."

"With the Florence city landfill closing and having the garbage now transported out to another place, I wonder how many jobs was lost? Because they’re not hauling garbage there no more, don’t look to me like they’ll need as many people. I’m just wondering. We could save a little money if they reduced the head count there."

"Two thumbs down to the Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Department for not responding on calls when there’s problems out at Oakland neighborhoods in the afternoon after school. It’s a problem and they will not respond. it’s their job to serve the public."

"Your editorial is right on. The problem doesn’t lie with Wal-Mart, but with the people who are willing to see small-town America die in order to save a buck."

"Well, I’ve got a proposition. I propose we make January the Liberal Strike Month and all of you progressive liberals out there need to go on strike for the whole month. Then, in February, we’ll see if anybody notices."

"I am for the nonsmoking ordinance in Sheffield, except for when it comes to a business owner. Leave it up to the business owner if they want smoking in their business. If you’re a nonsmoker, do not go into that business. But, leave it up to the business owners if they want to allow smoking or not. They have done a good job with it."

"In regard to the raise for the teachers, I wouldn’t do what you do with a whip and a chair. But, come on. I’m 71, on Social Security. When is the last time I had a COLA raise? And it sure wasn’t 10 percent."

"The comment in Sunday’s paper about the bureaucracy of the Tennessee Valley Authority holding up the transfer of lands to the local governments is right on target. If you think bureaucracy is terrible there, you should try working for them. If TVA could eliminate the paper-shuffling bureaucrats in its overhead structure, they could really make some money. Maybe if they were to privatize it like the movements in the past tried to get them to do, they could have to answer to shareholders and they could do a lot better job."
