“I believe America is going insane putting guns in the schools by arming teachers. Do you really want a loaded gun in your child’s classroom?”
“Here we are in the year 2013 and I just sat through another 35 minute train over here at Sheffield. Come on, folks, when are we going to be able to get an overpass built around here? We’re behind in times.”
“I want to know what people think about these commercials on 48, 19 and 31, these old lawyer commercials. I get so tired of hearing them old things, I could scream.”
“I needed to say a thank you to the staff at ECM Hospital emergency room for Wednesday, Jan. 2. That was a wonderful group of people that helped get my grandson through a crisis and to Vanderbilt Hospital in Nashville.”
“Thumbs up to motivational speaker, Pete Key, for talking to the students at Brooks High School about bullying. Please consider going to Central High School in Lauderdale County. Please consider.”
“I wanted to make a statement about the Mr. Scoggins case, about his termination. I don’t even know the man, but I think this is absolutely ridiculous that he has been stripped of his livelihood for shooting a deer. Yes, fine him. But to fire him over something this absurd is ridiculous. I believe that politics is playing a part in this.”
“About that deer incident in Muscle Shoals, I don’t think the officer should have been fired. Sure, he made a mistake and should be punished for it, but not termination. If termination is the only solution in Mayor Bradford’s eyes, he, too, ought to be fired today for shooting those turtles when he was on the job.”
“Why should the police officer that shot a deer from his police car be fired from his job and lose his employment and everything else when the police chief, Tony Logan, has been convicted three times of a much worse crime for drunk driving? Where is the fairness in all this? If one goes and gets fairness, then all of them need to be fair.”
“I worked 23 years and paid into Social Security for 23 years. The man next door never worked a day in his life and he draws $200 more a month than I do. What is wrong with this picture?”
“I’m calling about the government trying to cut Medicare and Social Security. I am one of those people. I have worked since I was 14 years old paying in. I am now 55 ... signed up for my Social Security and the government won’t let me have my money. I’m sick and unable to work. So, no, I don’t think they should cut Medicare, Medicaid or our Social Security. We’ve worked all our lives and paid it in. It’s our money and we deserve it.”
“The man that’s got the four dogs missing, if he would put their size and their color, a little more information, somebody might could help him find those dogs.”
“We’ve had another shooting in Taft, Calif., by a young man who had been teased and taunted because of his size. He was short and small and he was teased about it. The only way they’re ever going to stop this bullying is the first time a child bullies — you might, if he’s young, give him a second chance - if not, boot him out of school and don’t let him back in that door. This is the only way you’re going to stop the bullying is to stop it dead in its tracks before people that are hurt so often by the bullying and the name-calling lose it.”
“Well, so we hear that Mr. Biden’s group is developing a consensus for more gun control. To me, this sounds like the same consensus that the Democrats did in the 1800s to run Indians out of states east of the Mississippi and to maintain slavery, then in the 1900s to keep black people from voting and to impose other civil rights restrictions. Same party, same consensus, same lies.”
“This is for the mail carriers and pick-up outside boxes at the post office. I’m losing mailed checks.”
“I am disappointed that our senators and representatives vote on important bills that they have not read. We are told read, and read the small print. Yet, our elected officials voted on the Obama health care and the fiscal cliff without reading. Very disappointed.”
“Mo Brooks and Richard Shelby are two of the coldest hearted individuals I’ve ever had the opportunity to meet. Neither is a good representative of Alabama, that’s for sure. Why the religious parties continue to back these two individuals, I have no idea. I read in your editorial where Brooks submitted a bill to abolish the Internal Revenue Service and income tax. That would completely destroy the United States military and, for sure, offset NASA, which is in his district that he is supposedly representing.”
“Has the meaning of truce disappeared from our language?”
“I’m starting to worry about all the people who are going to lose their jobs when your newspaper shuts down. You know, people vote with their feet and readers basically are, well, they’re not subscribing, shall we say. The Courier Journal, which has a much more realistic editorial tone, is thriving, but unless you clean out the ... tone of your editorials, you’re not going to last too long. I’m sorry, but it’s just not worth buying a paper.”
“Wake up, America. Gun control is not the answer. The answer is drugs. If we clean up the drugs in this country, gun control would not be a problem. And these thugs and these drug addicts are going to get their guns, one way or another. So the American people need to keep their guns. Clean up the drugs off the streets and we’ll be safe without gun control.”
“Board of education, transportation department, you need to get control of your employees. Too many of them are having affairs with your bus drivers.”
