  • “I think it’s a shame we have teachers in this day and age that make comments like was made by Grisham to the students, especially about the first lady and the gays. I don’t think he should be in the classroom. I know people have feelings, but the racial overtone is bad for everybody in this day and age.”

  • “So we built a music hall of fame on the way to nowhere, a sportsplex no one can get to and now we’re going to build a visitor’s center that has to have a ferryman? Somebody needs to think this through.”

  • “I think marijuana should be legalized, not only for medical use but for recreational use. Which one would you rather see your teenager do — drink vodka or smoke marijuana? Think about it.”

  • “A 7.9 percent national unemployment rate is not acceptable. Add in the people dropping out of the job market as well as the underemployed and you have a figure of 15-17 percent unemployed, if not more. I don’t want to hear how well Quad-Cities is doing because the job incomes in the area are low, not even the national medium. It would be nice if TimesDaily would do a reporter story of the income levels compared over the last three years. I bet we would see below the national level average of income.”

  • “I just got through reading the article in Thursday’s paper about the ... teacher from Rogersville. The superintendent of education better get rid of the ... before we get rid of her in her job.”

  • “You know, thank goodness there’s only a few species that eat their own. And Thursday I saw the Republicans do it to one of theirs simply because he questioned going to war or he may disagree with the knee-jerk agreement with Israel on every issue. It’s sad.”

  • “The coach at LCHS needs to find a Bible and read Matthew 7:1-2, concerning the judgment of others.”

  • “Bob Grisham has no place in our classrooms. Of course, the football field is different. Their winning is the only thing that matters. Now we get to see what Jennifer Gray is really made of.”

  • “I was reading the article in paper about Jennifer Gray commenting about comments made by Bob Grisham. I don’t know Mr. Grisham, but I do agree that he had a bad decision with the audience he had. But, last I looked, there was still freedom of speech — which Obama is probably going to do away with. But, right now, we do have freedom of speech.”

  • “It’s really nice how they’ve changed from illegal immigrants to unauthorized immigrants so they can get back taxes and get refunds. Can we go ahead and change some illegal acts to unauthorized acts so we don’t have to do jail time or be thrown in prison or on probation?”

  • “I support Coach Grisham 100 percent. ... I’m behind him. I agree with him.”

  • “The property tax exemption for people over 65 is somewhat confusing. It needs to be made clear. What if the person over 65 has more than $7,500 in taxable income? Do they lose their property exemption or not?”

  • “Would somebody please tell me what it would take to get a fast-food restaurant — a McDonalds or Arbys, any kind of fast-food pizza place — out here at Central for after the ball games, for after the dances, for after church, anything? What would it take to get a fast-food place out here?”

  • “I am a state retiree. I am in my 80s and I lived on a fixed income. I struggle every month to have the necessities and keep my good credit. Yet, the federal and the state governments keep spending and spending on this and that and foreign countries. Have they never heard the expression, ‘Charity begins at home?’ ”
