  • “I’m tired of reading and hearing that Alabama has no money for schools and highways. If Alabama had taxed legal gambling, a lot of our money problems would be solved. The Indian casinos pay no taxes. We support Tennessee, Mississippi, Georgia and Florida. If you want to, you can check out the Alabama tags at the Tennessee line on U.S. 43. Also check out the Alabama tags in Tunica, Biloxi and Gulfport.”

  • “So, if life’s not bad enough for you folks, I guess now we have to start paying to own pets. That is ridiculous. You have to pay to own your pet? Are you going to help me feed him?”

  • “You need to build a casino around the Music Hall of Fame. It would might give some money back to them.”

  • “I just heard where we won’t be getting any mail later on on Saturdays. If they’d quit sending out all this junk mail and just send our bills and things we’re supposed to get, it wouldn’t be such a mess. Half of my garbage is stuff that comes to my mailbox I bring in and throw in the garbage. Stop that mess and just send what we necessarily have to have.”

  • “I disagree with the Lauderdale County Board of Education regarding the treatment of Mr. Grisham. He has his rights and opinions, just like the rest of us. He’s entitled to it, but God help us if any of us insults the Obamas or the gays. The country is on its way down with Obama and the gays leading the way.”

  • “The decision about the Rogersville coach is shameful and the superintendent doesn’t even have the courtesy to respond to emails. Frightening that this bunch is making decisions concerning our children.”

  • “In regards to Mr. Grisham and the comments he made, I support him 100 percent. If they had more teachers like him, I do believe that our classrooms would be in better shape.”

  • “I agree with the comments made about Michelle Obama. She has been an embarrassment to this nation long enough and she sticks her nose in where it don’t belong — trying to tell us how to raise our kids. I think it’s high time somebody put her in her place and I’m glad they did it. I give applause to the teacher who had the courage to say it.”

  • “Can you tell me why men are never mentioned with the problem of abortion or children being born with drug problems? It seems that it’s only the responsibility of the women. I wonder why.”

  • “It makes me sick to look at Obama in the face when he sits there on TV and says that it’s OK for the gays and lesbians to be in the Boy Scouts. That makes me sick.”

  • “Concerning the firing of the police office in Muscle Shoals, I think it’s disgusting to a good man and take his job for killing a deer. He should have known better, but we all make mistakes and he deserves a second chance. He does not need to be fired since this is the only thing against him on his record. He has done a good job and this is his livelihood. He does not need to be fired.”

  • “Maybe Bob Grisham, instead of teaching his psychology class, he can go down there and hang out at the fieldhouse or just go around and do what he wants to like all the rest of the coaches in Lauderdale County do instead of teaching their class. Just kind of hang out and draw a paycheck.”

  • “The authoritarians plan to take everything we Americans have. First, they get our guns. Then the mega banks. They plan to take everything you’ve got, Americans. Wake up now.”

  • “You know, you can read the book of Hosea, Chapter 10, and see how Israel turned their back on God, what God did to Israel. America, we’re turning our back on God. We’re letting all the atheists, the left-wing liberal, communists, Barack, Joe and some of the others take all of our religious rights away. They will stamp out freedom in this nation and God will turn his back on it if we don’t turn back to him. We’ve got an evil, corrupt government. God help us.”

  • “Coach Grisham’s suspension is unwarranted and your stupid editorial about it illustrates political correctness run amok. Whatever happened to the old saying, ‘Sticks and stones will break my bones, but names will never hurt me?’ This is really pathetic.”

  • “I want to thank all the people that went and voted for Obama. After all the cuts I have suffered, I have now suffered another $82.43 cut out of my paycheck and it’s official. I now make less than I did two years ago.”

  • “In regard to the editorial at TimesDaily Wednesday, the nut who wrote it is still off base concerning the great coach and teacher Bob Grisham. He just told them the truth and that’s what I want my kids to hear. Kids are not eating their lunches at school unless they’re free.”

  • “Well, America is becoming another Germany. Over in Germany they took away the freedom of speech, and then, they took away their guns. And that is what is happening to America. We’re going to be another Germany.”

  • “I agree with Mr. Grisham. All he did was tell the truth. I would be pleased to have him to teach my kids, If the comments had been made about Laura Bush and Christians, the school board or newspaper would have never said a word. Free speech is for liberals, not for conservatives and I sure don’t agree with the TimesDaily’s editorials.”

  • “Concerning your editorial in the Wednesday TimesDaily about Bob Grisham, someone pointed out the hypocrisy in Michelle Obama’s actions. And our children do not need to be taught that hypocrisy is acceptable or that sins against the laws of nature are acceptable. Bob Grisham is exactly right.”

  • “Grisham expressed my thoughts exactly. Sorry that it hurt your feelings.”

  • “You know, it’s 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday night. Another wreck, more injuries on County Road 25 — simply because people won’t adhere to the ‘Watch for children’ signs, ‘35 mph’ and the curvy roads and hidden drives. How many people have to be hurt and killed before people just simply slow down?”

  • “The Lauderdale County educator that has been prominent in the news in recent days is an example of some of the problems in our educational system. This ... was actually teaching psychology. How embarrassing.”

  • “Everybody should know by now that the Sheffield City Council is a pack of ... for not building a railroad overpass. But, on the other hand, we should also know that the people who work for the railroad are diligent and professional and they try to do the best job they can to keep us safe, despite those ... in city hall.”

  • “If Helen Keller is so concerned about there being too many hospitals, how about closing Helen Keller?”

  • “I want to thank the TimesDaily for the excellent editorial about the Lauderdale County school board. As for all of these people calling in to support Grisham, they remind me of Fred Phelps and his warped bunch. Maybe they should move out to Kansas with him and he would welcome them with open arms.”

  • “Your ignorance as editors of a supposed newspaper is appalling. Alabama, after more than 100 years, is in the best condition it’s ever been. The Republicans are doing an outstanding job. If you’re not happy in Alabama, we would be more than happy if you would move on. I’m tired of you knocking Republicans. The little letter that you have in the You Said It column every day, written by the same individual, makes me think it’s one of our astute editors. No individual would be chosen that often in a You Said It letter.”

  • “Putting our children’s schools under armed guards is training our children to live in prisons and concentration camps. Do we really want to do this to our children?”

  • “I am calling about one of the articles on the You Said It on Feb. 5 about the person talking about what the teacher/coach said. He just voiced his right to what he believed, same as this person was. The problem I have on what he said was about how he had been all over the country and that’s why they talk about us here in Alabama, he hears them saying, or the South being so backward. He can go back to one of the places he’s been and stay and leave us so-called backward people alone. May God bless all the backward people that stood up for our rights, and he should be proud also that he can say what he said - same as the teacher/coach said.”
