  • "Raise the minimum wage for these workers. Tack on another 10- or 15 cents or quarter to a burger or whatever you need. It is an absolute sin to oppress the poor. And, you would think that with all the Bible-thumpers here in Alabama they would have researched through the Old Testament and the New Testament. God is real angry when people oppress the poor and take advantage of them. Get them above the poverty line where they can eat and have insurance and maybe take a vacation and have a pension and health care."

  • "The president was talking about raising minimum wage. That's all well and good if everything else could stay the same. But when minimum wage goes up, everything goes up. And us making just a little bit more than minimum wage do not get a raise, so therefore, it makes us struggle that much harder."

  • "President Barack Hussein Obama's state of confusion message he had the other night, this man has no clue. And most of the American people realize it. ... He's destroying us, people. He's destroying America."

  • "I think the (cartoon) on Page A4 of the paper Thursday is right on. The president standing there speaking with the vice president behind him and Mr. Boehner over there on the right-hand side with the mask and the big hatchet in his hand. That's just about suited him perfectly. If looks could kill, he would be a murderer today. All he studied about is cutting the president's off anyway he can. I never saw the man smile. He's never clapped at anything very much ... all out for the wealthy people and not what the people of the country really need. They're against anything that the president wants to do. Whether it's good for the people, that makes no difference. Boehner should be gone, along with the rest of the Republicans."

  • "I'm getting a little nervous seeing all these cops running around dressed up in all this stormtrooper-type gear. I guess if the government isn't allowed to use the military to do police work, we can just turn the cops into shock troops."

  • "Well, I just read in the paper where the president wants to raise the minimum wage and the first man to holler against it is the Speaker of the House, John Boehner. I wonder why the Republicans want to jump on that. But what I think this country needs is a law where no elected official can make more than minimum wage. That might help us. We might get better people in office, too."

  • "I don't understand why people think that the NRA wants you to have assault rifles to murder people. That's not what they're all about, anyway, they never have been. People that are going to murder other people with an assault rifle, they're going to get that rifle illegally. They're not going to get legal, usually nobody does. Most people don't even have assault rifles in their homes. I don't, and I've been around guns my whole life. It doesn't mean I'm a target shot or anything like that. What's wrong with a gun is the person that's got it in their hand. And if they want to hurt somebody, they're going to get a gun ..."
