"Alabama has a very bright future thanks to the control of the state by the Republicans. Alabama was held back for more than 100 years by incompetent Democrats."
"The Republicans are using the filibuster to hold up Mr. Hagel for the secretary of defense. And his great crime was one thing: he simply questioned the Iraq war and there were no weapons of mass destruction. Which both have proven right. It was a mistake. There were no weapons. But the Republicans are using the filibuster to hold him up, the first time in history. I think the Republicans are going to pay a heavy, heavy, heavy price in 2014 for these kind of stunts. We've got a war going and no secretary of defense."
"More state cuts coming in the judicial system. I get so tired of picking up the newspaper and finding out more cuts, more layoffs. Why don't we just shut the state down, Gov. Bentley go home, the Legislature, go home and we'll get along a whole lot better without every one of them."
"I just come down Florence Boulevard just a few minutes ago, seen they tore down O'Charley's restaurant. Now, that's really crazy — a perfectly good restaurant and tore it down. Florence must have plenty of money. I guess they're going to put a bank there now, right?"
"I would like to say Florence definitely needs a new hospital. I don't think they should let Huntsville or Keller tell them what to do. People in Florence needs a state-of-the-art medical center. I had a stroke about a year ago. It was late in the evening on a Thursday and I went to ECM. They said we don't have a neurologist that comes in on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. We'll have to send you to Keller; they've got a good one over there. They sent me over there. I got over there and they said we don't have one. I said ECM said you had a good one. Well, he doesn't come in on weekends. They sent me in an ambulance to Huntsville. I got there at 1:30 a.m. It was like riding in my daddy's log wagon on the farm I grew up on, laying down on the bed on a quilt. That was the worst ride I ever had in my life. ... and I got down there and they were really good to me in Huntsville. They got the job done, but I didn't get there until almost 2 a.m. and I left home around 5:30-6 p.m. to go to the first hospital. So, we need a hospital in Florence ..."
"If you're having a party that not's a fundraiser, call me."
"I think the mayors and the councilmen and the representatives from Helen Keller Hospital, which is in conjunction with Huntsville Hospital, need to stay out of ECM's business and let the people have a hospital in Lauderdale County, in Florence — because Helen Keller cannot provide a hospital for everybody."
"Why is it that Tuscumbia does not have their streets striped? Sheffield, Muscle Shoals, Florence have their streets striped. Sure would help with night driving and prevent a lot of accidents."
"You know, I wonder how much money this dog and pony show that the mayor and the Civil Service Board put on in Sheffield just to get the police chief reinstated, what they did they knew was wrong, but lawyers' fees on both sides, wonder how much all that cost? I'd like to know the amount and how far it would have went doing Avalon Avenue from the hospital out to the railroad tracks. ... That road's a mess. Spending money just frivolously, I guess. Wasting it, our taxpayers' money."
"What is the shameful fascination with the cruise ship story? The passengers and the pathetic news people should be ashamed of themselves for making this so much bigger than it is. They all need to read about Jewish concentration camps, prisoner of war hellholes and the daily life of people in any Third World slum. What a bunch of self-centered, whining people. I'll bet no one aboard this luxury liner lost a single pound from their ordeal. If these people are true representatives of the majority of Americans, God help us."
"I have a solution to all of our problems that are in Washington, D.C. Get rid of all the Republicans and our problems will be solved."
"If Keller hospital continues to keep the ER as is and local doctors as their hospitalist doctors, they do not have to worry about losing patients to ECM. If the new building is the same or better than the old one, they're no good. We would like local doctors."
"Well, he's back — the police chief in Sheffield. There goes my neighborhood. Sure was quiet while he was gone though."
"I think Florence wanting to build a new hospital is like a big fish in a small pond. Unless they get doctors here that can do what these doctors in Birmingham and Nashville and Huntsville can do, they're not going to be any better off. Keller is the best hospital of the two. I've worked in both. Keller is clean. They're very conscientious about their patient care and the employees are nicer and friendlier ..."
"It's about the traffic that's on 43. My husband and I were coming home from church and the driver had no lights and no windshield wipers. He almost hit us. We had to completely stop. That's on Highway 43 and 64. Someone needs to get a highway patrol out there and watch and make them pay a fine."
"Why is it we cannot get TV competition in Florence? Is it because that the city keeps getting raises on our franchise fees?"
"Well, I see Florence is getting a Longhorn Steakhouse. If it don't make a success, I guess you're going to tear it down and knock it down and put up a new one."
"I see where we are just going to ruin the economy in Colbert County if we got a new hospital over here. I mean, after all, the poor people over there on the North Alabama Lighting, Walgreens Call Center, Barton tissue, TVA, Robert Trent Jones two golf courses, Muscle Shoals airport and on and on and on. Poor little old things. I mean, how pitiful can it get? Did you ever hear anything so absolutely stupid in all your life? Those people must be complete idiots."
"I'd like to say, you're talking about the problem of what's wrong with America or America is going the wrong way. Check your household. Also, blame yourself. We're all to blame. Don't put the blame on nobody else. Check your own self out."
"Considering the fact that I am a transplant, so to speak, from Arkansas, I would like to respond to the comment in Friday's You Said It column regarding the president of the United States of America. Our parties, Republicans and Democrats, in my personal opinion have changed places. And I say, go Jeremy Potts for president of the United States of America."
